Liz Charlwood for Belmont

Why I’m Running

Challenges We Face. Like many people in Belmont, I’ve watched the cost of living continue to rise while families, seniors, and young people – we all – work harder just to make ends meet. Property taxes keep climbing, housing has become increasingly difficult to afford, and every budget season seems to bring another difficult debate on how to pay for the services that members of our community need.

Practical Solutions. I’ve spent my career helping businesses, nonprofits, and communities solve problems through collaboration, thoughtful planning, and practical solutions. I believe those same principles belong in Concord.

I’m not running because I have all the answers. I’m running because I believe good representation starts with listening, asking questions, doing the work, and bringing Belmont’s voice to the State House.

Reasonable and Responsible Representation: Our community deserves a representative who is accessible, prepared, and engaged—someone who will listen to residents, show up when it matters, and work every day to deliver thoughtful, common-sense solutions.

That’s exactly what I intend to do.

Priorities for Belmont

Property Tax Relief

For many Belmont residents, rising property taxes are one of the biggest financial challenges they face. Seniors on fixed incomes, working families, and first-time homebuyers all feel the impact.

New Hampshire must reduce its dependence on local property taxes and pursue responsible solutions that provide meaningful relief while protecting the services our communities rely on.

Supporting Strong Schools Through Fair State Partnership

Strong public schools are essential to our community, but Belmont homeowners shouldn’t have to shoulder an ever-increasing share of the cost through local property taxes.

I support working to ensure the State of New Hampshire lives up to its commitment to adequately fund education and provide municipal aid. When the state fulfills its responsibilities, it eases the pressure on local property taxpayers while helping communities maintain the quality schools and essential services they depend on.

We shouldn’t force towns into choosing between supporting students and protecting taxpayers. We should work toward practical solutions that strengthen our schools, provide meaningful property tax relief, and ensure Belmont receives its fair support from the state.

Housing Affordability

As a Realtor, I see firsthand how difficult it has become for young families, first-time homebuyers, workers, and even long-term residents to find housing they can afford.

Housing affordability is about more than home prices. It’s about property taxes, available housing, economic opportunity, and ensuring New Hampshire remains a place where people can build their lives. I’ll support responsible policies that encourage housing opportunities while preserving the character of communities like Belmont.

Growing Our Local Economy

Much of my professional career has focused on economic development, community development, and helping small businesses succeed. I’ve worked with entrepreneurs, nonprofit organizations, lenders, and community leaders to strengthen local economies and create opportunities.

Strong local businesses create jobs, strengthen communities, and help keep New Hampshire a great place to live and work. I believe state government should be a partner in helping businesses succeed—not an obstacle.

It’s about making sure Belmont has a representative you can trust – who listens carefully, works hard, and remains accountable to the people who elected them.

Whether you’ve lived here your whole life or just recently made Belmont your home, I want to earn your trust through honesty, hard work, and respectful leadership.

Together, we can make our community more affordable, strengthen our local economy, support quality education, and ensure that Belmont has a strong voice in Concord.
